How We Test and Rate Online Casinos - 4-Phase Methodology

casino review methodology ireland

Phase 1: Licence verification

casino review methodology ireland detail

The first phase of our methodology for any online casino Ireland review begins with a deep dive into the operator’s regulatory credentials. We check that the site holds a valid licence from a respected jurisdiction. For Irish players, the most relevant authorities are the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA), the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC), and, less commonly, the Curacao eGaming authority. We verify the licence number against the regulator’s public register. Under the upcoming Gambling Regulation Act 2025, the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland (GRAI) will become the domestic benchmark, but until then, MGA and UKGC licences remain the gold standard. We also examine the casino’s terms regarding dispute resolution and player funds segregation.

Phase 2: Deposit and bonus claim

In this phase, we test the full deposit journey using payment methods common in Ireland. We use Visa and Mastercard debit cards first, then move to digital wallets like PayPal, Skrill, and Neteller. We also test Apple Pay and Google Pay, as these are widely used by Irish punters. For newer options, we check Revolut and instant bank transfer via Trustly. We note minimum deposit amounts, processing times, and any fees. Then we claim the welcome bonus exactly as a new player would. We read the full terms, paying close attention to wagering requirements, game contribution percentages, and max bet limits. If a bonus is not clearly presented or has hidden conditions, we flag that. We also check if the bonus code is required and whether it works on mobile. See also casino review methodology ireland.

Phase 3: Gameplay session

We then play a selection of slots, table games, and live dealer titles for at least two hours. Our testers focus on load times, mobile responsiveness, and game variety. We check if the lobby is well-organised and if search filters work. For live dealer games, we assess stream quality and dealer professionalism. We also test the casino’s responsible gambling tools, such as deposit limits, session reminders, and self-exclusion options. Since Ireland has no national self-exclusion register yet, operator-level self-exclusion is the practical option. We verify that these tools are easy to find and function correctly. We also run games from major providers like NetEnt, Microgaming, and Evolution Gaming to ensure fairness. Where available, we look for certification from eCOGRA or iTechLabs, which confirms the games use certified random number generators. See also how we test casinos ireland.

Phase 4: Withdrawal stress test

The final phase is the most critical for Irish players. We request a withdrawal using each available method, including bank transfer, PayPal, and Revolut. We measure the time from request to funds landing in the account. We also test the KYC (Know Your Customer) process, submitting the required documents such as passport, utility bill, and proof of payment method. We note how long verification takes and whether the casino requests additional documents unnecessarily. We check for hidden withdrawal fees, maximum withdrawal limits, and pending times. A casino that delays payouts or imposes unreasonable limits receives a low score. We also test the withdrawal process on a bonus win to see if the terms are applied fairly. Weighted scoring across 7 criteria

Each casino is scored across seven categories, weighted by importance to Irish players: See also Hearth and Home Casino Review.
